Why Should You Use SEMRush?

We talk about SEMrush a lot on this blog, simply because it has helped us massively increase our organic search to drive more traffic month-on-month.

Of course, SEMrush isn’t exactly cheap, which is why I’m writing this piece on promo codes. It’s nice to get a discount even if the tool brings in more than enough value from the additional traffic and conversions we get.

If there is one thing that SEMrush is good at, it is finding those hidden gem keywords that would otherwise go uncovered. By using a number of approaches and methods, you can find keywords and sub-niches to target for your own website.

Doing this alone has generated more revenue for our business than any other method we’ve tried in the past.

Here’s what you get when you subscribe to a SEMrush plan

So if you’re into SEO (Search Engine Optimization), PPC (Pay Per Click) or SMM (Social Media Marketing), with SEMrush you have all the tools you need to dominate your competition and grow your business at your disposal.

Some of the standout features for me are:

These are just a selection of the many tools SEMrush contains and they’re adding new tools and developing existing ones on a consistent basis. This allows you to stay on step ahead of the curve and use cutting edge technology to gain the advantage.

My Favorite Way To Use SEMRush

  1. My favorite way to use SEMrush is to stick one of my competitors URL’s into the search box and hit enter.
  2. From the results, I navigate to the “Main Organic Competitors” section to see who is ranking for similar keywords.
  3. Click on the “View Full Report” to see all competitors.
  4. Now, browse the list of competing websites and look for those with a good amount of search engine keywords via the SE Keywords column.

A “good amount” will depend on your niche or industry, in the example below I have highlighted a few that I would look at. I avoid really large websites since their domain authority will be difficult to compete against.

By doing this you can identify previously unknown players in your niche and get complete access to the keywords they’re ranking for and how they market themselves (SEO, PCC, SMM etc).

This is a very powerful way to literally spy on the competition and find keywords that not only drive traffic and visitors but have a positive ROI too.

SEMRush Plans and Pricing

There are 3 main plan options with SEMRush, each offers its own set of features, limits, and capabilities. Below we outline those package options and explain the differences between them so that you can choose the right plan for your needs.

SEMrush Plans Pricing Discount

Pro

If you’re new to SEMrush then the Pro account is the one I recommend you start with (you can always upgrade at a later date). It provides everything you need to grow your blog/business traffic and is ideally suited to freelancers, bloggers, and startups.

At $99.95 it’s not cheap, but then again, nothing worth paying for comes cheap. If you run SEO, PPC or SMM (Social Media Marketing) campaigns, the Pro plan will provide the tools you need.

Guru

The Guru Plan is a big step up in terms of features and data allowances. For example, you can save up to 50 projects, which makes it perfect for growing business and especially agencies that have lots of client websites they need to manage.

The price does also increase with the level of access and features you are getting. The Guru Plan will set you back $199.95, which is only a $100 increase on the Pro Plan but the sheer amount of data you can process with this plan makes it a great deal.

Business

Then we come to the business plan, for medium to large agencies and pro digital marketers. At $399.95 it’s not cheap, but with the ability to track 5,000 keywords and all the data that entails, along with 200 of your own and/or client projects, you can see why.

The business plan also gives you access to every single feature SEMrush has, such as the extremely useful historical data, White label PDF reports, and API Access should you be a developer or want to bring your own SAAS to market.

Comparing The Features

There are of course differences between each SEMrush plan, these typically revolve around the ‘type’ of data you can access and the amount.

SEMrush Features Comparison

As you can see above, if you want to run a large amount of data through SEMrush then you will need a suitable plan that is capable of handling such requests.

For example, if you want are running Google Shopping Campaigns, then the plan that will provide the data you need is the Business Plan. If you have multiple websites, then the number of projects you have will dictate the plan you need.

For SEO and Digital Marketing agencies, you will find that you quickly outgrow the Pro and Guru plans which offer the ability to save 5 and 50 projects respectively.

However, it’s a good idea to start with the smallest plan that will fit your needs and upgrade when you need to, that was you can save money and only move onto a larger plan as your business grows.

How do I learn how to use SEMrush?

SEMrush provides an awesome tool called the SEMrush Academy. Here you can learn and take tests to improve your knowledge and test your skills.

What does Keyword Difficulty (KD) mean in SEMrush?

KD or Keyword Difficulty is the way SEMrush identifies how tough a keyword would be to compete against in the search engines. The scale is 0 to 100, with 100 being the most difficult.

When planning a piece of content or a campaign, it’s important to target keywords with a KD score you can realistically beat. A good way to do this is to head to your own organic rankings report and take a look at the average KD score for those keywords you appear in the top 10 of Google for.

This average KD can then be used to determine the highest KD keywords you will target for future campaigns.

How to cancel SEMrush Pro, Guru or Business account?

To cancel your account you need to provide SEMrush with a cancellation request to this email: mail@semrush.com

All requests must come from the same email address you used to create your account (for security purposes). Cancellations typically take between 24 and 48-hours, so be sure to let them know ahead of time before your billing phase to avoid unwanted transactions.
